Thermographic Examination

Thermography is a physiologic imaging method which provides a picture of  the surface temperature of various regions on a horse.  Measuring surface body temperature with an infrared thermography camera can indicate where to investigate further to find an underlying problem.  Blood flow to an injured area may increase before clinical signs of pain and lameness.  As a diagnosis tool, the image can indicate areas of inflammation.  It is a noninvasive tool to aid in the diagnosis of certain lameness conditions and following healing after injury.  Thermography is helpful in evaluating saddle fit and complements other imaging techniques.
